Dr. Lee Young
Veterinarian, Owner
Dr. Lee Young is known for his gentle approach, deep compassion, and the way he makes both pets and their people feel instantly at ease. With a warm demeanor and decades of experience, he brings thoughtful, honest care to every visit, whether it’s a routine checkup or a complex medical case. Clients appreciate how he takes the time to listen, explain, and make sure they feel confident and supported in every decision.
After graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine Texas A&M University, Dr. Young and his wife, Dr. Lucy Edens—also a veterinarian—moved to California to start their journey together. He began his career in a lively mixed animal practice, caring for everything from dogs and cats to goats, llamas, and even exotic pets. His path led him to emergency medicine in Washington, D.C., along with research roles at the National Zoo and NIH, followed by a Zoo and Wildlife Medicine residency at the University of Florida. He later served as a veterinarian at the Jacksonville Zoological Gardens and the San Diego Zoo, before returning to small animal practice to spend more time with his growing family.
In 2006, he purchased what is now Discovery Valley Animal Hospital, creating a space where exceptional veterinary care meets heartfelt connection. Dr. Young lives in San Diego with Lucy and their four children—one of whom is now following in their footsteps at UC Davis Vet School. Outside the clinic, you’ll often find him enjoying the outdoors or relaxing with his crew of beloved pets.
Dr. Lauren Kinley
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Lauren Kinley brings fresh energy, genuine warmth, and a true passion for helping pets live their healthiest lives. Known for her attentive care and thoughtful approach, she ensures that every patient, and their people, feel understood, supported, and at ease. Her special interests include surgery, internal medicine, and cardiology, and she takes pride in combining medical expertise with compassion in every exam room.
Originally from Michigan, Dr. Kinley earned her veterinary degree from Michigan State University (Go Green!). Her journey in veterinary medicine has been shaped by a love of learning and a commitment to excellence, preparing her to care for pets through every stage of life.
Outside the hospital, you’ll often find her horseback riding, running, traveling, or spending time with friends and family. She is thrilled to call San Diego home and is excited to be part of the Discovery Valley Animal Hospital team, where she can continue building lasting connections with pets and the people who love them.
